The Next Joker Is. . .

Published by bill_finger at 10:25 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

There’s a new poll up on the right side of the page (don’t act like you didn’t notice), this time asking for your opinion on who could possibly fill Heath Ledger’s clown shoes.  It seems inevitable that The Joker will play a part in the next cinematic masterpiece, and rumors are flying like crazy bats (insert metaphorical emoticon) as to who could take on the role.  It is–as of this moment–the most important debate of the century.  You have ten choices.  Choose wisely.

I’ll wait until tomorrow before putting in my own two cents on the subject, so be sure to tune in next time.  Same bat-time, same bat-channel!

Johnny Depp would definitely be able to make the role his own, and has the acting chops to carry the torch without igniting the ire of Ledger’s fans. Mark Hammill has done well vocally with the role, but his physical performance has always left a lot to be desired. Matt Damon could be a dark horse - he’s a better actor than some of his choices suggest. I can’t see any of the others really getting their teeth into the role.

I think Depp could do a fabulous job, but he might be too famous for the role. Ledger was popular, but he was still somewhat of an unknown when he was first cast. Nolan might be opting for a similar actor next time, which is why I’ve included Clive Owen and Matthew McConaughey. Thanks for stopping by.

    Wow. That comment was funny.

Maybe you shouldn’t use the picture of you in your Batman costume on JDate? Might help.

Dang, it looks like I was being a smartass there, but I wasn’t (for once). The SHIFT key thing was dead on.

Perhaps. But in the interviews I’ve heard with directors and fellow cast members, Heath Ledger took great pride in his work and loved seeing himself in the movies he adored. I think it would be a greater disservice to pretend like his fabulous performance never existed in The Dark Knight. If the next film is done right, The Joker will have to play at least a small role, maybe no more than five minutes of screen time. I plan to give my thoughts for the next movie in an upcoming post. Thanks for commenting.
